I have been helping a lady with this unit (xp version) and it has a real wifi problem. After reading the forums, it appears that some of these units have a wife problem such that you can’t connect to nearby routers unless you are within 10ft. So if you buy this, check this out quickly and be sure your unit doesn’t have the problem.

Bought one of these from Best Buy September 17 and by the power supply starts working intermittently in less than two months. Asus REFUSES to send a new power supply without receiving the bad one back. So I have to have a dead laptop for however long this process will take. No matter what reassurances I gave them that I would send the bad one back, they refused to accomodate me. Plus I am told that the reason they won’t do this is not because they can’t, it’s because of Best Buy’s contract not including advance replacement of parts. Also it took talking to 3 supervisors to find out that they don’t even have the part in stock. They’re tech support is also EXTREMELY rude, slow to answer, and actually recommended that I buy a new a new powers supply from thier e-store, which apparently, they don’t even have to sell.
If you like customer service, I suggest you go elsewhere. Asus made it abundantly clear that their policies are far mor important than me being without a computer for weeks.

I’m a Mac person. Used to be in tech support and Microsoft’s software issues provided for me for most of my 20s, so I’m not a hater, but this review is geared specifically towards people who understand the possible benefits and limitations of a Netbook. This little guy certainly performs up to par, so long as you’re not expecting the performance of a PC or Mac laptop.
As a small business owner who not only uses a laptop as my main computer, and travels extensively with it, who is clumsy and had dropped my laptop at least 3 dozen times in the past 3 years that I’ve had it, I was sad when my MacBook Pro finally died due to my own error. I’m still deciding between models. In the mean time, most of my companies functions are performed online, so I couldn’t go more than the weekend without the computer.
So, instead of going on a weekend getaway, I got this little number, and I must say, I’m impressed. There are four laptops and two desktops in my household not including my now-deceased model and this one can go toe to toe with the other older models — and sometimes win!
If you want to use this feller without the AC cord plugged in, spend a few extra bucks for the model with the longer battery. I always plug my computers in, so a full day battery life is a waste on me. This has a nice long cord too. I would say we’re talking six or seven feet of cord.
I’ve never used the Webcam, so I can’t speak on that . I do use screencasting software, like you’d find on [...] – no problems so far. Right now I have Skype open and two instances of Mozilla Firefox with 8 tabs open in one, no problems.
Pros
Small
Light
Attractive – I got it in blue, not too glossy, no fingerprint issues.
Cheap – I got mine on sale at Best Buy when it was out of stock here, and got mine for $[...] if you include taxes.
Fast – out of the box – With the bloatware, it’s not as fast as my MBP, but it beats the pants off the other machines in the house, though they’re a few years old. That Atom processor is something else.
Of course I have knocked it over twice already. No damages.
HD streaming video on sites like Hulu work just fine.
These speakers kick BUTT. I have yet to plug it into my desktop speakers, which was my only complaint about my MBP, ANY laptop, really.
Cons
Though the keyboard is almost full size, as a touch typist, about once a day I find myself mistakenly hitting keys that make strange things happen. So I had to turn off keyboard shortcuts on Google Docs, etc, but then, I don’t use kb shortcuts anyway. In the browsers, it seems to be nothing a little Edit–> undo can’t handle.
This is really a pet peeve but the lettering on the alphabetic keys seems to be for the blind. HUGE.
If you tilt the cover too far forward it hibernates automatically.
Switches from AC to battery unexpectedly sometimes when I shift the position. No idea why but it’s only for a second.
To wrap this up – if you want a Netbook that can handle several programs open and several in the system tray without stuttering, that feels almost like a regular laptop, this is the one. I’ve tried many other 10.1 models, and unless you want more battery power, this is a safe bet.
My only regret is that I promised it to my mother when my Mac comes.
Come Christmas this will make a great gift.

I got this netbook back in july, wanted to give it some time before writing a review on the item. So, here goes…
After opening the box and charging the 1005hab for the specified time in the manual,I was finally ready to fire it up. 1st, the case is a magnet for fingerprints, but overall fit and finish seems nice. Startup and seting up the netbook for first use was very easy, no more than 20 minutes and I was already connected to my network in my home. Wireless is great, built in n speeds was nice for a $300 netbook, My router is in my basement and I can get 75% strength on the 1st floor at the other end of the house, 2nd floor has ok signal so overall very good. The touch pad for me is not the greatest, just trying to move the pointer around with it sometimes goes into a scrolling effect rather than the mouse moving, and the left anf right buttons don’t always seem to register every click. Got a bluetooth mouse and solved those issues. Keyboard took a little getting used to due to the size, also the size of the screen makes viewing some documents and web pages tough, I have to be wearing my glasses to see the screen clearly, i use a 22″ monitor on my home computer so i can get away with no glasses with that, not the netbook though. But then if I wanted something that was big and easy to read, i would have bought a full size laptop. Hard drive storage is good at 140ish GB free out of the box. Lets talk battery… where did they get 4+ hours of life from this thing? I haven’t timed it out to see for sure but it’s more like 2-3 hours depending on what your doing with it. it may stretch out to 3.5 before shutting down from low power but i just charge it before that anyway. Students couldn’t get through a school day on a single charge. The processor power is good for what it is. I use it for mostly internet and I design and maintain a few websites with macromedia software, so its great to bring with me when going to meet up with people to talk sites. Fits inside my motorcycle side case with ease. I also bought a 2GB memory chip but saw very little diffence with it. If your running that many memory hogging programs that you really need to upgrade the netbook, you probably should have bought a fullsize laptop with a faster processor. changing the chip was very easy though, 1 screw and a little cover on the bottom comes right off.
Overall if you want a compact, easy to use computer to take with you for email, word documents and some picture editing software, or just to browse the internet, I’d say this is for you, if your going to be editing video or mutlitasking larger programs, you might want to think laptop
